ABOUT US

The Joseph and Evelyn Lowery Institute for Justice & Human Rights is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to carrying forward the legacy of Dr. Joseph Echols Lowery and Mrs. Evelyn Gibson Lowery, two visionary leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. Founded in 2001, the Institute exists to ensure that their lifelong commitment to nonviolent advocacy continues to inspire a new generation of leaders.

Our mission is to create a space where people from all backgrounds can learn the foundational principles of nonviolence and deepen their understanding of justice and human rights. Through education, ethical leadership development, and hands-on opportunities, the Institute equips emerging “change agents” to champion equity and human dignity in their communities and beyond.
